
RideIt Community Guidelines
Creating a safe, respectful, and reliable transportation community across rural North Carolina.
RideIt is committed to connecting riders and drivers through safe, respectful, and trustworthy experiences. These Community Guidelines outline what we expect from every member of our community — riders, drivers, and RideIt staff — to keep our platform safe and reliable.
By using RideIt, you agree to follow these guidelines at all times.
1. Safety Comes First
1.1 Follow the Law
All riders and drivers must obey all federal, state, and local laws, including:

Traffic laws and speed limits

Seatbelt requirements

Anti-discrimination laws
-
No tampering with safety equipment or SOS features
1.2 Driver Screening
RideIt drivers undergo:

Background checks
-
MVR (driving record) screening
-
Annual re-runs
-
Insurance verification
1.3 Secure Trips
For everyone’s safety:

Riders must not ask drivers to exceed the 70-mile drop-off policy.

Drivers may end a trip if they feel unsafe.

Riders must not request dangerous, illegal, or off-road trips.
1.4 No Weapons
Weapons of any kind are prohibited during a RideIt trip.
2. Respect for Everyone
2.1 No Discrimination
RideIt prohibits discrimination based on:

Race

Age
-
Gender or gender identity
-
Ethnicity
-
Disability
-
Religion
-
Sexual orientation
-
National origin
Drivers must provide service to all riders unless safety is at risk.
2.2 Respectful Communication
Treat others the way you want to be treated:

No harassment

No verbal or physical threats
-
No unwanted comments
-
No inappropriate behavior
2.3 Cleanliness & Personal Standards

Riders should keep themselves and their belongings clean and odor-free

Drivers must maintain a clean, smoke-free vehicle at all times.

No open containers of alcohol.

3. Appropriate Conduct
3.1 No Violence or Threats
Violence or physical confrontation of any kind will result in immediate removal from RideIt.
3.2 No Sexual Misconduct
Zero tolerance for:

Sexual comments
-
Unwanted contact
-
Inappropriate questions or conduct
Drivers should never ask for a rider’s personal contact information.
3.3 No Illegal Substances

No use or transport of illegal drugs.
-
No riding while intoxicated to the point of creating a safety risk.
4. Integrity & Fair Use
4.1 Fraud Prevention
RideIt prohibits:

Fake accounts
-
Chargeback fraud
-
Manipulating fares
-
GPS tampering
-
Requesting trips you don’t intend to take
4.2 Honest Payments
All payments must go through the RideIt platform. No cash fares. No soliciting off-platform rides.
4.3 Accurate Account Information

Use your real name.
-
Use accurate contact information.
-
Drivers must keep all documents (license, registration, insurance) up to date
Drivers may not refuse riders because of disability, unless the driver’s vehicle cannot physically accommodate a specific device and no safe alternative exists.
5. Protecting Our Community
5.1 Health & Cleanliness
For safety and courtesy:

No bodily fluids, blood, or hazardous materials during trips.

Riders who damage a vehicle may be charged a cleaning or repair fee.
5.2 Reporting Concerns
If something feels off, report it in the app or at RideIt support. We investigate all reports.
5.3 Lost Items
Riders are responsible for their belongings. Drivers must return lost items through the official process.
6. Additional Guidelines for Drivers
6.1 Professional Conduct
Drivers must:

Treat all riders with courtesy

Keep conversations appropriate

Avoid political or sensitive topics
6.2 Vehicle Standards
Vehicles must be:

Clean
-
Smoke-free
-
In good working condition
-
Registered and insured
6.3 Cancellation Standards
Drivers should avoid unnecessary cancellations and must not cancel for discriminatory reasons.
7. Additional Guidelines for Riders
7.1 Timeliness
Riders should be ready within 2 minutes of the driver’s arrival.
7.2 Respect the Vehicle

No slamming doors

No feet on seats

No spills or damage
7.3 Children & Car Seats
Riders must provide a proper car seat when riding with young children, following NC law.
8. Enforcement of These Guidelines
RideIt may take action, including:

Temporary account suspension
-
Permanent removal from RideIt
-
Reporting to law enforcement (when required)
Actions depend on the severity and frequency of violations.
9. Updates to the Guidelines
RideIt may update these guidelines as we grow into new counties and expand our service offerings. Notice of updates will be posted in the app and on the website.
